PRESS RELEASE JANUARY 2023

CHIANTI ULTRA TRAIL
WE’RE GOING TOWARDS RECORD ATTENDANCE

Two months after the event, scheduled from 24 to 26 March, there are already over 1200 registered for the race, one of the most eagerly awaited by ultra trail enthusiasts in the world.

Radda in Chianti, 25 January 2023_Four different races over four distances, the non-competitive 15 km, the routes that wind through the ancient villages, castles and dirt roads of the Historic Chianti, vineyards and hills as far as the eye can see as a backdrop and the cellars of the famous Chianti Classico as refreshments: these are just some of the ingredients of the Chianti Ultra Trail, the eagerly awaited event that brings thousands of athletes from all over the world to Tuscany every year. Two months before the start of the fifth edition, scheduled for March 24th to 26th in Radda in Chianti, over 1200 athletes have already registered for the competitions, a very high number that brings the race towards a record attendance. On 31 January next, the last chance to register at a discounted rate will expire.

After the success of the first edition, staged last year, the Chianti Castles is also back, the long-distance race, 100 km and about 4000 meters in altitude which offers participants the unique opportunity to cross a piece of history of this territory, the one that has its roots in the historic Chianti, among the castles of the ancient League, built to defend the territory and protagonists of the warlike conflicts between Siena and Florence. Not a challenge like the others then, but a real journey into the past.

The other four routes, of 73 km (2800m D+), 42 km (1400m D+), 20 km (800m D+) and 15 km (600m D+), wind through the expanses of vineyards and the wood of Monte San Michele, the highest point of the route, through the historic villages, on unpaved paths, some private, thus offering participants the opportunity to enjoy exclusive views of the hills as far as the eye can see.

But it is also the side events that attract a large number of enthusiasts, such as the Chianti Walk & Taste, the 8km guided food and wine walk between parishes and castles, which includes 3 stops with tasting of typical products and wines of the area directly in the cellars . And also the Ultra Wine, the calendar of appointments in collaboration with Casa Chianti Classico which includes visits with tastings to the historic cellars, sensory and museum itineraries, introductions to the art of the sommelier, open-air buffet dinners, all by reservation.

The success of this appointment has not only conquered trail running lovers but the whole sector, starting from the increasingly numerous partners who accompany the event year after year: among these New Balance, i-eXe, Garmin, Enervit and Travelsana , main sponsor of the 2023 edition, but also many local realities such as Nencini Sport and Ross Hotel.

Like every year, the Chianti Ultra Trail will award points for the UTMB 2023 edition. The points will be awarded to the finishers of the 20 (1 point), the 42 kilometers (2 points) and those of the 73 kilometers (3 points), 100 km 4 points.
