Radda in Chianti (Siena), 7 September 2021
After the stop due to Covid-19 in 2020, in Radda in Chianti (Siena), trail runnig is back as the protagonist, with the Chianti Ultra Trail, an event that for the discipline represents one of the most fascinating races in Italy, with a landscape context unique in the world and that flavor of authentic history and tradition that only these places can transmit.
1500 athletes with 30 nations represented, over 700 athletes on the waiting list, 1000 starters for edition number 3, constant growth despite a Covid era that we know well how much it affects everyone’s lives.
The appointment is for 25-27 March 2022, a fourth edition that once again sees the organization’s desire to improve and grow, but above all to offer more and more an exclusive and important event to the athletes who participate.
The competition days with 5 distances become 2 days, with the start and finish line placed in the medieval village of Radda in Chian-ti.
On Saturday 26th the athletes for the brand new UTCC 100Km, CUT 73km and CMT 42km will be at the starting blocks, while on Sunday 27th CHT 20Km and CWR 15km non-competitive run and walk will take place.
100km in the Chianti trails, an absolute novelty, a dream of the organizers since the first edition, a race that becomes reality, a fascinating path that adds to the now consolidated route of the CUT 73Km, 40 km of path, woods, vineyards, but above all Castelli, a path that joins the fortifications born in the Middle Ages that made up the Lega del Chianti, a military league that protected the area during the wars between Florence and Sie-na.
4000 m of elevation gain with fast and easy stretches and more technical single tracks, a mix that satisfies the legs as well as the sight.
Chianti Ultra Trail is an ITRA certified race, each race assigns Itra points and Finisher points, moreover it is already confirmed among the qualifying races for the new UTMB World Series international circuit.
Registrations are therefore open for all races, the reduced rate deadline is set for November 30th, 400 already registered at the opening, consequently it is expected to confirm and consolidate the number of 1500 in 2021.
The organization is ready to adapt the necessary precautionary measures, as already happened in the 2021 edition, the provisions will be communicated later when the government’s provisions are clear.
Not only trail running, thanks to the participation of local companies, numerous collateral activities are offered to the competitions, visits to wineries with tastings of typical local products, wines and oil, and a walk through cellars and castles with the organization of the Pro Loco of Gaiole in Chianti.
The organizing committee, with the support of the Municipal Administration of Radda in Chianti, the technical sponsors, New Balance, Ethic Sport, Nencini Sport, and the local partners, Castello di Albola, Dievole, Poggio San Polo, Ricasoli, Castello di Tornano, Pro loco di Gaiole in Chianti, Villa Vistarenni, Castello di Albola, Villa San Michele, Podere Ter-reno, Chianti Live, are working assiduously to be ready to welcome athletes and companions, trusting in a more relaxed general situation compared to the past two years. due to Covid.
