Chianti Trail Ultra 2020

A race between ups and downs set by breathtaking views, in the midst of vineyards and unique places: this is the Chianti Trail Ultra, the race that brings together passion and sport, environment and history. The event, founded in 2018, sees three routes with departure and arrival in Radda in Chianti, in the heart of this corner of heaven, where runners and enthusiasts from all over the world meet every year, ready to challenge each other on the different tracks.

And after the success of the first two editions, 2020 holds important surprises that make the event, scheduled for 20 to 22 March, even more fascinating: the longer route will see a new restaurant located at Castello di Albola (at km 46), on top of the highest hills of the Chianti Classico where some of the most famous wines in the world were born. And runners will ride right in the middle of the estate vineyards, in a path that will take your breath away and not for the effort of the race!

Another innovation concerns the intermediate route that goes from 37 to 42 kilometers, becoming Marathon Trail. A shorter route but equally challenging: just think that the route, like that of the Ultra Trail, involves the transition from Vertine, the village that represents one of the best preserved examples of military architecture in Chianti, remains exclusive to Ultra the passage from Monte San Michele up to Volpaia truly spectacular. Also for the third edition, the event, which aims to enhance the area through the combination of sport and environment, will be open to those who want to have the opportunity to get to know the Chianti Classico closely through a non-competitive 15-kilometer run along places that normally are not easily accessible. This is the case of Villa Vistarenni: one of the most evocative places in the Chianti area that will see the passage of all its competitors.

“The first two editions, 2018 and 2019, have been a success from all points of view: not only because we had to close registrations well in advance, so much was the request to participate, but also because runners came from all over the world (26 nations represented). Sport, and in particular the trail that fits very well in this area, represents an exceptional machine for tourism promotion “. It is no coincidence that visits to the Albola Castle will be offered throughout the weekend with tastings and lunches with typical menus, bookable directly from the website.

The CUT 73K and CMT 42K are certified by Itra with 3 and 2 points, also are qualifying races for Ultra Trail Mont Blanc.
