Trail Running returns among the historic Chianti vineyards

Starting from March 22rdto 24th, 2019 the second edition of Chianti Trail Ultra. Inscriptions from September 1st. New Balance enters the event’s sponsors.

The challenge among the most famous vineyards in the world returns: from March 22rd to 25th, 2019 will be again Chianti Trail Ultra. The competition along the most beautiful white roads ,paths and vineyards of the Chianti Historical hills start again from the success of the first edition: 680 participants representing 22 nations; registrations already sold out 2 months before the start, more than 1500 spectators who crowded Radda in Chianti in the last weekend of March 2018.

A sporting and public success that brought important news for the 2019 edition, starting from the partnership with New Balance,  a prestigious and internationally known brand that decided to follow the athletes among the 3 paths that start and arrive in Radda in Chianti: Trail Ultra (73 Km and gradients of 2.600 meters), Chianti Trail (37 km with gradients of 1.200 meters) , both competitive  and the Short Trail (15 km e gradients of 600 meters), open to everyone.

“The trail Running” is certainly a promotional flywheel to give an impulse and deseasonalizing tourism in the Chianti Historical area, increasing the tourist presence even in periods that are usually not exploited. We have a lot of surprise for the second edition even if the basic formula doesn’t change: “a weekend of sport and nature in one of the most beautiful area of the world” – said Matteo Matteuzzi of Chianti Live – organizer of the event. Not only, “ after the success of the 2018 edition – he adds – we are studying, together with local associations, a project for the development of a trail plan in the Historic Chianti area” . An uncontaminated and rich territory is the setting for the three paths from the medieval village of Radda in Chianti, developing for 95% on white roads and paths for public or private use, offering a unique opportunity to discover unknown glimpses of the territory.

The tracks touch the fascinating Pieve di San Giusto, then go back to the imposing Vistarenni, a Reinaissance villa that stands out among the hills, after goes back to the highest point of Chianti, Mount San Michele putting the athletes to a hard test of technique and training. Then down towards Volpaia, one of the most famous and characteristic village and the return to Radda to cross the finish line. A challenging route that at the 2018 edition the Spanish Daniel Aguirre triumphed covering 73 km of Trail Ultra in 6 hours and 24 minutes.

For athletes and visitors will not be missing initiatives for “taste” the Chianti. The runners program will see the delivery of the bibs on Friday 22nd March, Saturday 23th  at 6 am the three trail will start and Sunday 24this the Ultra Wine program: at the Chianti Classico House , in Radda in Chianti, an ancient Franciscan monastery completely restored and today the institutional headquarters of the Chianti Classico wine consortium, the participants will get the possibility to participate to a guided visit of the “Sensorial Museum of Chianti Classico Wine” or to a full immersion for discovery Chianti Classico wine with the special event “How to be a Sommelier in 30 minutes”. Starting from this year will be added another opportunity to experience the Chianti with a program of four days  dedicated to a small groups to discover the unknown side of the territory.
