The winner is Daniel Aguirre that covered the 73 km in 6 hours and 24 minutes
Daniel Aguirre wins the first edition of Chianti Trail Ultra, competition of 73 km with a vertical drop of 2600 meters, with an exellent time of 6 hours and 24 minutes. An editing challenge started at 6 o’clock this morning, March 24th, from the heart of Radda in Chianti, in piazza IV Novembre. Over 600 athletes have gathered here from 22 different countries to face the path that has touched the farm of Dievole, one of the most important farm of our area, the fascinating pieve di San Giusto, and than go up to the impressive Vistarenni, a renaissance villa that stands out among the hills. It is from here that the climb strats, the real one that which has put a strain on the athletes to get to the top of mount San Michele, the highest point of Chianti. Then the descent towards Volpaia, one of the most famous and characteristic villages and the return to the finish line.
The race. The victory of the Catalan runner has never been questioned. Aguirre (Race land) left the group at the 12th kilometer and he showed up alone at the finish line under the walls of Radda in Chianti. “A beautiful race and path through vineyards and woods – declared the Spanish runner -. “To a first part easier to deal with, a second more technical one was added and made more difficult by the muddy ground”. Behind the winner came Gabriele Farra (Asd Siena Runners) which took 7 hours to cover the distance and Michele Lando arrived third at the finish in 7 hours and 9 minutes. The Florentine Giulia Petreni (The Scandicci Asd Podistica Bridge) was first classified among the women.
In the Chianti Trail, test of 37 kilometers with 1200 meters of difference in height the victory went to the Italian Matteo Patelli of the Run Card team who crossed the line in 3 hours and 3 minutes with 10 minutes ahead of the Czech Republic runner Martin Jor. Among the women first arrived the Sienese Maria Elisabetta Lastri of the team Asd The Rebel Flock – Hoka One One. There are also numerous participants in the Short Trail, a 15-kilometer between the vineyards of the municipal area of Radda in Chianti with a vertical drop of about 600 meters, which attracted many trail enthusiasts and saw the victory of Lorenzo Bucca of Polisportiva Rinascita di Montevarchi ( Arezzo). Chianti Trail Ultra goes on also tomorrow, Monday 25th March, with the Ultra Wine. Starting from 10 am at Museo del Vino di Radda in Chianti guided visits to the “Sensorial Museum of Chianti Classico Wine” and the special event “How to become a Sommelier in 30 minutes” are scheduled.
